Why do we need to love?
Saturday, 15 September, 2007I was talking to a friend yesterday. It all started with the well known cliche phrase “It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.”
First of all, I’d really like to know – does everyone think so? I mean, especially when you take this phrase in right after having a nasty experience with someone, how in the nine layers of hell could this phrase be of any use? Is it really better to be sad and heartbroken than to have no worry, no trouble, no problems?
While I am not yet sure if it is indeed better (right now I think it’s pretty stupid), I did start asking myself why do we need to love and be loved?
Is it due to the way we are brought up? We see our moms and dads, we hear and then read stories about Prince Charming and Snow White/Sleeping Beauty, we see movies, read magazines and books, etc. It’s all around us. “Find your half”, “live happily together forever after”, so on and so forth…
So I’m wondering – if all these refferences fed to us by society didn’t exist, would we strive so much to find that significant other? Would we still lay awake at night, looking at an empty half of a bed? Would we go to such lengths and spend so much money, time and nerves just to meet someone? Is it really part of human nature just like violence and imagination?
Frankly I’m not sure yet. My friend seemed to think it is. I however am still chewing on it from time to time. For the first time I am no longer down and about about not having a specific someone to share my life with, I just go out with however happens to be available and want to. Life is good… Life is chillin’
P.S. No this isn’t the post I promised in the previous entry. Aren’t you glad it isn’t?
well, dude, it’s like this… chillin’ is fine, until you discover that you’d really love to pork that person (if she’s a girl). and you can’t just pork her, you need to buy her food and drink first, to show that you can. and you need to do that at least a couple of times. and after that you can pork her. and when you’re done with that you sit and wonder if it’s more to life than just porking. and that’s how she starts saying that she might be preggers, and that she wants your baby. and then you die.
egads! that’s just wrong. the way he puts it. lucky for him i’m not a girl without a sense of humour, because even so it was pretty crude. anyways, it’s indeed human nature. otherwhise we would have had many many more hermits. you like having friends, right? (even though sometimes you act like an arse) they like having you for a friend too, no? well, love is just that, only multiplied. i say enjoy your life, whatver it may bring. always (quote) look on the bright side (endquote) and take every single day at a time. and when life gives you a friend who you can love and who can love you back in the same way, don’t rush into it…
what i’m trying to say is, kick back, enjoy the good things in life, don’t worry, be happy with what you have and be thankfull for what you receive.
…wow, that was some pretty deep stuff coming from me!
